In the midst of the current "radio safe" commercial bands and the not-so-commercial "real book" club residents, there lies a breath of fresh air by the name of DARK HALL.
Characterized by the retrospective borrowing of old school and establishing precedent for new school, the blend is a modern day fusion of sound and style. What separates this East San Francisco Bay Area quartet from the rest of the genre, is the ease with which they assimilate the best and diverse aspects of their music into a finely tuned, explosive movement.
DARK HALL was formed by bassist, Steve DiGiorgio, saxophone/flute player, Flamp Sorvari, and drummer, Chris Dugan.
It started out to be a studio project that began in April of 1992 as a trio. To expand on the sonic possibilities, they decided to add Eric Cutler on guitar. With the structure of a quartet intact, the recording of the first demo was completed in the summer of 1994. The five song offering was titled Solace, and was recorded mostly at Bay Records in Berkeley CA.
In 1998, DARK HALL pulled their collective intensity together to form what would become the new material, released as an untitled demo, featuring the talents of newly acquired guitarist Ken Schultz.
Subcontinental Records is proud to reissue this masterpiece, more than 2 decades later, on vinyl, cd and tape.
